ABOUT

“With the struggles these circumstances present, Josh has set his sights on the future by way of renewable, clean energy…”
Josh Lopez is a photographer dedicated to supporting the environmental justice movement in the US and internationally, through his stunning visual work. Though having documented many actions within the environmental movement, he is most notable for his role with the U.S. Tar Sands Action taking place in August-November of 2011.
Having grown up outside of Cleveland, Ohio – a major steel industry – Josh understood at a young age the health risks involved with fossil fuels.  A block from his childhood home, a neighborhood coal plant existed providing electricity to most of the county. Josh would later be diagnosed with chronic bronchitis, spending much of his life hindered by seasonal lung illnesses and a steadily failing immune system.
With the struggles these circumstances present, Josh has set his sights on the future by way of renewable, clean energy where others are no longer plagued with associated illnesses and diseases. Camera in hand, he uses his extensive art education and mechanical, technical workflow to provide images capable of bringing attention to the environmental controversies stirring around the world and in your backyard.
Josh received his education at the Hallmark Institute of Photography where he graduated in 2009. He began his career on a series of platforms within the television realm and music industry where he was responsible for photo-essay documentation on both stage and set.
Josh now currently works most often as a contracted photographer to environmental & climate organizations such as 350.org, Energy Action Coalition, Avaaz, Sierra Club, and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
